Karen's Review Of This Property:
The Punch Bowl lies nestled next to St Mary’s Church in Cumbria’s Damson Valley, famous for its display of white blossoms in April. Originally a small roadside inn dating back to the 17th century, it has been modernized and expanded by a succession of owners. Its latest incarnation is an interesting mix of old and new—exposed beams and high ceilings, comfortable beds, tasteful pine antiques, collectibles and flat screen televisions. Guest rooms are all named after past Vicars of St Mary’s. All are comfortably furnished and have their own modernly appointed bathroom en suite, each with its own free-standing roll-top tub, separate shower and heated limestone floor. Our particular favorite was Noble which occupies the whole top floor, open to the eaves; massive bed and spacious bathroom with twin roll-top baths, luxury and seclusion combined. Afternoon teas are served in the sitting room, a comfortable spot to while away rainy day hours in front of the fire with a newspaper or board game. Traditional British fare with a contemporary twist, plus a carefully selected wine list, is served in the restaurant; more relaxed dining is available in rooms adjoining the slate-topped public bar.
