Karen's Review Of This Property:
From the moment you enter through the rustic porchway into the long, low, whitewashed Pheasant inn, you are captivated by its charms: a front parlor all decked in chintz with an old-fashioned, open fire; a dimly lit, Dickensian bar with tobacco-stained walls and ceiling, oak settles, and clusters of tables and chairs; a long, low-beamed dining room, its tables covered with crisp damask cloths; dramatic fresh and dried flower arrangements; a blazing fire in the hearth beneath a copper hood in the large, airy sitting room, and the former farmhouse kitchen dating back over 400 years. It is reputed that the legendary John Peel used to be one of the 19th-century regulars in the bar. Whether you stop in for a traditional Cumbrian afternoon tea or partake of fine dining in an evening you will find excellent food. Each spacious and inviting bedroom has a large, modern bathroom. Two lodge rooms offer peace and quiet and are handy for anyone having difficulty with stairs. Behind the inn, a garden with benches lining its pathways tumbles into the beechwoods, which belongs (as does the inn) to Lord Inglewood’s estate. The Pheasant sits on a quiet country lane, just out of sight of Bassenthwaite Lake. This is a peaceful part of the Lake District with beautiful views round every corner. Sailing, boating, fishing, bird watching, and, of course, walking are available nearby.
