Tucked away from the city clamor in the calm oasis of Beaufort Gardens, yet only minutes from the bustling shopper’s paradise of Knightsbridge (Harrods is literally just around the corner), Parkes epitomizes the perfect small townhouse hotel. Enter the wood-paneled reception area and the attentive staff will minister to your every need. Originally three private houses, the buildings have been artfully combined to provide a wide variety of tastefully decorated accommodations, all with ample space for those who need to work. Creature comforts abound: luxurious linens, sumptuous towels, mini-bars featuring a broad variety of whiskies, marvelous marble, glass, and chrome bathrooms. There are some interesting high-tech touches, heated bathroom floors, huge shower heads with water pressure to match, heated non-misting bathroom mirrors, wireless internet, flat -screened TVs and movies on demand. Many of the suites are provided with small well-equipped kitchens—which, with a little imaginative shopping in Harrods’ food halls, can provide a welcome respite from the rigors of restaurant meals. Any of the larger split-level suites would indeed provide a wonderfully spacious home-away-from-home for lengthier stays. There is a cozy oak-paneled guests’ lounge and the breakfast room offers either buffet continental or cooked-to-order full English breakfast. Nearest tube station: Knightsbridge.
