Karen's Review Of This Property:
Hathersage is a typically picturesque Derbyshire village situated in the lovely Hope Valley. It is a place that has impressed many visitors over the years, the most famous being Charlotte Brontë who was said to be so taken with it that she based parts of her novel “Jane Eyre” on it. The George sits imposingly at one end of the main street that runs through the village. Parts of the hotel date back to the 14th century when it was an alehouse, but it wasn’t until the 1770s that The George became an inn. The heart of the hotel is the large airy lounge divided into sitting nooks by lots of plush sofas with a library nook in an alcove and a bar occupying the front turret. The contemporary feel is carried into the restaurant by a series of low-ceilinged rooms with beams and exposed stone walls. Upstairs, the bedrooms have the same light and airy feel. While room 3 with its double four-poster bed and unusual round stained-glass window depicting St. George has lots of appeal, you may want to select a room with a larger bed. Hathersage is well placed for visiting the Peak District.
