Karen's Review Of This Property:

The Rote Rose (along with the Guesthouse Engelfrid), is the perfect inn with a superb setting on the knoll of a vineyard-laced hill. Guestrooms are housed in neighboring buildings of this beautiful walled village: a meticulously restored, old timbered home—the original Rote Rose, and a magnificent 800-year-old home—the Engelfrid. Every one of the rooms is a prize, decorated with exquisite antiques, and the favorite, the Hexenkuche (Witch-Kitchen) is dramatic, spacious with a canopy bed overlooking the countryside. The inn’s best feature, however, is the owner herself, Christa Schäfer. Europe’s finest hostesses, she is now joined by her son, Frank and his wife, Dorina, and together they make an incredible team! And as if this is not enough to win your hearts, the walls of the inn are filled with the paintings of the renowned rose artist, Lotte Günthart, Christa’s mother. Lotte Günthart’s contribution to the world of roses has been so significant that a beautiful, California red rose is named for her. The Rote Rose has no restaurant, but breakfast is a delicious, bountiful offering of fresh breads, rolls, cheeses, yogurts, fruits and beverages.
