Karen's Review Of This Property:

Sitting high above Zermatt, the Grand Hotel Schönegg has a panoramic view of the towering Matterhorn across the rooftops of the town. In spite of its hillside location you don’t have to climb to reach your lofty retreat for the hotel has an elevator, accessed through a grotto-like passageway, which whisks you up from the town. The classic chalet façade is matched by a classic interior, with heavy pine beams and ornate plasterwork ceilings in the public areas and traditional furnishings in the bedrooms. Of course, capturing the view of the Matterhorn is the name of the game in Zermatt and the Schönegg offers many possibilities: from the spacious terrace, the dining room, and a great many of the bedrooms. Bedrooms are found on two floors below and four above the reception area. The majority of rooms enjoy balconies and views of the Matterhorn. The most dramatic is the south-facing suite 604, accessed by its own private stairway and profiting from an expanse of deck. Service and food are exceptional and the price for one of Zermatt’s loveliest hotels is surprisingly one of the town’s best values.
