Karen's Review Of This Property:
The Hotel Masson faces onto a road that weaves up into the hills from Veytaux, a town along the shores of Lake Geneva, just south of Montreux. The house dates back to 1829 when it was built as a private mansion, complete with coach house, horse stables, and wine press. There have been many changes over the years but the high ceilings and handsome parquet floors remind one of the past. What you see today is an attractive, rambling, three-story, white house that is adorned by balconies, and windows framed with green shutters. The hotel exudes the friendly, informal ambiance of being in a private home rather than a commercial hotel. The property is owned by Anne-Marie Sèvegrand, whose father owned it before her. Mme. Sévegrand, a gracious, refined hostess, treats guests like returning friends. You enter from the street into a small foyer with a staircase that leads up the next level where you find the reception area, lounge, and dining room. Dinner begins at 7 pm and a delicious, home-cooked, four-course, set-menu dinner is served. A staircase leads up to the individually decorated guestrooms; my favorites are those in the original part of the house. If you want to visit the romantic Castle of Chillon, it is just a 15-minute walk from the hotel.
Swiss Historic Hotel's Description:
The charming Hotel Masson with 33 rooms is located in Montreux Veytaux, on an elevated site affording extensive views, alongside the old Simplon road. The contemporary structure began life as the house of a wine-grower, and may have even been a guesthouse before that.
