Karen's Review Of This Property:
For a moderately priced place to stay in Lausanne, the family-run Hotel du Port is a real winner. This is not a deluxe hotel with antique ambiance, opulent furnishings, and resort amenities. However, for a friendly, sweet, cheerful, small hotel offering fresh and airy guestrooms (some with a view of the lake) that is decorated in a modern style with good lighting and comfortable beds, the Hotel du Port is outstanding. Plus, the location is prime—the hotel overlooks the waterfront of Ouchy, the area of Lausanne that hugs the shore of Lake Geneva. The exterior of the hotel is as cute as can be: a row of three narrow, old-fashioned, attached houses with steep rooflines and windows framed by brightly colored shutters. In front of the hotel there is a street-side café where tables are set under jaunty umbrellas—a favorite spot to have a cup of coffee and watch the ferryboats glide in and out of the harbor. There is a nice dining room; but when the evenings are warm, the favorite place to dine is outside, and the food is delicious (try the fillet of perch with lemon sauce). The Hotel du Port has been in the Nicolier family for over forty years. Serge Nicolier’s mother was the original owner. Now he and his wife, Danièle, operate the hotel, assisted by their daughter, Véronique, and their son, Laurent. For parking, there is a public garage nearby.
