Karen's Review Of This Property:
Originally a large private residence, the Romantik Hotel Margna was built in 1817 by Johann Josty who took advantage of a prime location, building his home on a small spit of land between two lakes. In the summertime there are countless paths along the lakefront or leading up to imposing mountain peaks, while in the winter this is an Alpine and cross-country skiers’ paradise. Johann Josty’s manor is now a beautiful hotel with gracious touches of sophistication—warm, cream-colored walls, antique accents such as an old sleigh laden with flowers, and Oriental rugs. There are several lounges, a grill restaurant with an open fireplace, a basement Italian restaurant with “Enoteca” and lounge, a second dining room, the Stuva, a cozy, wood-paneled room original to the hotel, and a new garden terrace that is popular for both breakfast and lunch. The hotel has game rooms, a whirlpool, massage rooms, and steam bath. Each guestroom is delightful but I especially loved number 25, which enjoys views of lake and mountain through three large, arched windows. Golfers will be happy to know that the Margna has its own six-hole course and resident pro. Those on a budget should inquire about the newer wing of less expensive rooms.
Romantik Hotel Guide's Description:
Constructed in 1817 as a patrician residence, the Hotel Margna near St. Moritz has been welcoming guests since 1901. This hotel has the charm of a traditional Engadin country house. The use of local timber in the guest rooms, the antique furniture and paintings in the function rooms together with the various first-class restaurants combine to make this hotel an unforgettable experience. It also offers a wellness area with massage facilities. In summer guests can use the private 6-hole golf course and tennis court. Direct access to skiing pistes.
