Karen's Review Of This Property:
The medieval village of Hermance, located 15 minutes from Geneva’s city center on the south shore of Lake Geneva, is the last community you come to before entering France. Easily accessible from Geneva by bus, car, or boat, the Auberge d’Hermance offers a nice alternative to city hotels. Located on a quiet side street about a block from the lake, the auberge is best known as an excellent countryside restaurant and guests come from far and near to dine. The centuries-old house has a terrace in front where tables are beautifully set in the “wintergarden” heated in winter for cozy, sunlit dining on chilly days. When it gets really cold, the indoor dining area enjoys a warm hearth. The specialty of the restaurant is “poulet ou loup de mer cuit en croûte de sel,” which is comprised of either a chicken or a sea bass baked in a shell of large-grain salt so thick that it looks like a rock, which the waiter dramatically breaks open at the table with a wooden hammer. Most dinner guests never realize that upstairs from the restaurant there are six guestrooms available. The two that are least expensive are very good value, but also very small. If you want more luxury, splurge on one of the suites.
