Hotel Alpenrose Sketch

Karen's Review Of This Property:

When at the end of the 19th century word spread of the incredible beauty of the Alps, sporty travelers began to find their way to Wengen. At that time Wengen was merely a cluster of wooden farmhouses clinging to a mountain shelf high above the Lauterbrunnen Valley. In 1881, Friedrich and Margaritha Feuz-Lauener (great-grandparents of the present owner Paul von Allmen) gambled on tourism and built the Alpenrose, the village’s first hotel. Through the years, the hotel has expanded, but the traditional warmth of hospitality remains. Paul and his gracious Scottish wife, Margaret, make all guests feel very special. The lounges and dining rooms are cozily decorated and have been recently remodeled in the beautiful Alpine style using old wood. The dining room is large and becomes a meeting place where everyone has their own table for dinner each night—a time when guests share their day’s adventures and often become friends. Paul von Allmen is the chef and the set dinner menu features good home cooking. Most of the bedrooms have been completely renovated and are fresh and pretty with light-pine furniture. Request a south-facing room with a balcony to capture the splendor of the Jungfrau.
