If you are a fan of art nouveau, the Hotel Belle Époque, a boutique city hotel at the heart of this medieval city, is tailor-made for you. The hotel was renovated and refurnished in spring 2000 with a stylish and contemporary backdrop, done by one of Switzerland’s finest interior decorators. Art nouveau (belle époque) furnishings and art from the early 1900s set the theme for the hotel—from the large paintings and murals in the cozy breakfast room and delightful bar, to the paintings hung in each of the bedrooms. The bedrooms are priced based on size. All have different color schemes that complement the artwork and lovely old furniture. Rooms with a view face the busy street while those at the back offer peace and quiet. Light refreshments are served in the bar and at the tables that form a terrace on the sidewalk under Bern’s famous arcade—a delightful place to people watch. For dinner you can dine at the elegant in-house restaurant Le Chariot or have the friendly staff direct you to a restaurant in town.

Directions: To find the hotel it is important that you exit the autobahn at Bern-Wankdorf and follow signs for “zentrum.” When you see the old town across the river turn over the bridge and the hotel is on your right after 50 meters. Unload in front of the hotel and you will be directed to parking.
