Karen's Review Of This Property:
The Posada de San José, located in the heart of the walled city of Cuenca, is a gem tucked onto a tiny cobbled lane just off the Plaza Mayor. The entrance is easy to miss—just an antique doorway with a niche above it featuring a charming statue of San José holding the infant Christ. Once inside you find the hotel terraces down the hillside with staircases leading up and down, twisting and turning, with lots of interesting nooks and crannies. The bedrooms are comfortably furnished and many have thick stucco walls, beamed ceilings and old tiled floors. Best of all most of them have stunning views across the Huecar gorge to the Convento de San Pablo. Several of them have balconies. Rooms 11, 12, 31 and 33 are more luxurious suites with separate bath and shower and a most spacious bedroom/sitting room decorated in contemporary décor. We loved our rooms: 15 a twin with a spacious terrace and 22 a double four-poster with French windows opening to the view. Tapas, light suppers and breakfast are served in its welcoming little restaurant whose wall of windows frames the breathtaking views. Owner Jennifer Morter (raised in Canada) speaks perfect English.
