Karen's Review Of This Property:

You cannot help falling in love with the Hotel del Oso, superbly located in the glorious mountain range called Picos de Europa. Although it is officially rated two stars, many deluxe hotels could take lessons from this gem. Rarely do you find such a combination of warmth of welcome, faultless housekeeping, superb cuisine, and beautiful displays of flowers. Undoubtedly this degree of excellence is the work of the Rivas family. Sr. Rivas designed the hotel, which, although of new construction, maintains a traditional air, blending in with the other beige stone buildings in the region. His charming, friendly wife is the talented chef, and people come from afar to sample her fabulous food (specialties are regional dishes). However, the greatest asset is what few other hotels can offer—four wonderful, talented daughters (Ana, Irene, Teresa, and Cari) who assist in every aspect of the running of the hotel. Their sparkle and genuine hospitality would be difficult to duplicate. On the ground floor there is a wood-paneled reception room, a large dining room, and a cozy bar which opens up to a terrace where tables overlook a crystal-clear stream. The guestrooms are located on two upper floors (each level has its own sitting room). Each of the bedrooms has the same furniture—only the matching fabrics used on the spreads, curtains, and cushions vary. Ask for one of the rooms numbered 209 to 213—these have some of the best mountain views.
