Karen's Review Of This Property:
Just before the Plaza de Armas, in the shadow of the beautiful parish church of Santa Maria de Asunción, you find the Hotel Pampinot. From the outside, the austere stone façade looks similar to the other 16th- and 17th-century gray stone mansions that line the narrow street—just a small hotel sign indicates you have found the proper house. Inside, a surprise awaits: the stern exterior does not hint at the opulence within. The reception is a spacious area with a massive stone floor and exposed stone walls, which set off to perfection two large altar pieces, intricately and colorfully painted, dominating the facing walls. Beyond the entrance lobby, a delightful little bar is tucked into a large stone niche under the stairs. A wide staircase, with iron railings topped by a polished brass banister, leads up to the guestrooms. There are only eight—four on each level—with each room having an elaborately painted ceiling depicting clouds and a variety of birds and cherubs—one even has colorful, frolicking parrots. Rumor has it that María Theresa stayed here on her way to marry Louis XIV of France.
