Karen's Review Of This Property:
Pikes (pronounced Peekays) has its own special personality. Not your “run-of-the-mill” hotel at all, this intimate inn is a favorite hideaway of the world’s rich and famous and it is not at all surprising that they flock here. Pikes offers 26 guestrooms, each decorated with a dramatic flair worthy of a stage setting. They are discreetly housed in a cluster of honey-beige-toned cottages that offer privacy. However, most of the guests I saw did not seem to be seeking seclusion, but were sunning by the swimming pool, playing tennis, taking advantage of the exercise room, or laughing with friends at the bar. An air of unpretentious informality prevails, conducive to guests becoming friends. Pathways crisscross through the beautifully tended gardens, which include walls of cascading bougainvillea, roses, hibiscus, geraniums, daisies, carnations, and fragrant lavender. The heart of the property is a 300-year-old finca (farmhouse) where the stunning dining room and bar offer authentic rustic charm. The thick stone walls, arched doorways, low, beamed ceilings, and old olive press create a romantic atmosphere for tables set with pretty linens, fresh flowers, and softly glowing candles. And, best of all, the food is outstanding. If you can tear yourself away from this oasis tucked into the low hills outside of San Antoni, there are beaches, golf, and sights to see nearby.
