Karen's Review Of This Property:
Hotel Mar i Vent is without doubt one of the best values in Mallorca. For less than you pay for a room in most hotels, you also have breakfast and dinner included in the rate. This superbly run, small hotel has been in the Vives family for three generations. Originally it was owned by the grandfather of Francesc Vives, who is now manager. As was customary, his grandfather had to own a house before he could marry his sweetheart, so he went to America and saved enough money for a simple, stone house in the small village of Banyalbufar, high in the hills above the sea. There were no cars or roads in those days, but travelers sometimes happened by who needed a place to spend the night. With a kind heart, grandfather Vives took them in and his wife fed them. The village priest suggested that they open their home as a wayside inn, and today the same genuine hospitality exists. Francesc’s pretty wife, Juana María, helps at the reception; his father, Tony, makes all guests feel special; his mother, Francisca, prepares the home-cooked meals; and aunt Juanita helps, too! Although this hotel is inexpensive, a high quality of service and accommodation exists. Each room is nicely decorated and has a terrace or balcony with a view over the terraced fields to the sea. The hotel is built into the hillside and on the lowest level is a large pool cantilevered over the cliffs with a panoramic view.
