Karen's Review Of This Property:

Although the address reads “Torrão” the hotel is actually about 12 kilometers away, in a beautifully secluded setting overlooking the lake of Vale do Gaio. Your first sight is of the back of the pousada—a boxy white building with not much architectural interest, but this impression is totally misleading. Inside the entrance gate flanked by two giant palm trees, a whole new image emerges. Here you see a small, attractive, red-brick structure with an extremely appealing wisteria-covered terrace looking out to the lake where boats bob in the water. The lake is formed by a dam, and the hotel was originally built to house the engineers who built it, later being converted by the government into a simple little inn with only a few rooms. The pousada began to show its age so was closed, totally renovated, enlarged, and redecorated, then reopened, revealing an excellent job. From the moment you enter, you will be impressed by the fresh, pretty look. Polished wood floors, lovely pastel colors, light woods, and pretty print fabrics give the feeling of being in a home. This is a small pousada and the public rooms are intimate in size but the bedrooms are spacious and appealingly decorated with light-wood furniture. All the guestrooms have a view of the lake, but those on the top floor have the bonus of balconies.
