Pousada de Sousel–São Miguel Sketch

Karen's Review Of This Property:

The Pousada de Sousel-São Miguel is housed in an interesting contemporary building which was constructed to take full advantage of its spectacular setting. A small road meanders through the countryside and then winds up a hill on top of which the pousada reigns supreme. What is so glorious about this utterly tranquil setting is that from the hotel (especially from the swimming pool and rooftop terrace) you have a 360-degree panorama of great beauty—in all directions there is a sea of olive trees whose mellow-green leaves and black trunks stand out like an abstract work of art against the clay-red soil. Slightly above the pousada is a very old church and, next to that, a centuries-old bullring. The surrounding area is excellent for hunting, attracting many sportsmen during the winter, so the pousada has a sporting theme—in the lobby a huge wild boar is displayed in glass and on the walls are trophies of deer, while the bedrooms are named for birds and wild game. The decor, however, is more like that of an English gentlemen’s club, extremely attractive with its predominant use of rich dark green accented by beige and red—there is even a billiard table. Furnishings are very appealing The bedrooms are all large and each has a deck or balcony capturing the idyllic sweeping view of fields of olive trees.
