Karen's Review Of This Property:

The Pousada de Santa Clara-a-Velha is tucked high up in the hills north of the Algarve in a region of untouched natural beauty. As you approach the pousada, you can see it from afar—a low, white structure hugging the top of a hill. There has been a pousada in this spot for many years, but it provided only a few simple guestrooms until a recent renovation. It is now gorgeous and accommodates the many guests who flock here in the summer (and weekends the entire year) to relax in this beautiful, pristine setting and enjoy the pool, country walks, or fishing and boating. Below the hotel is the featured attraction, a beautiful lake created by the dam. There is no development around it to disturb the eye—only gently rolling, tree-covered hills rise from its shores. The hotel is very cleverly designed to take advantage of its 360-degree view—all of the spacious bedrooms have a balcony and look out either to the lake or the equally splendid low, wooded mountains on the opposite side. Wrapping almost totally around the hotel is a wide balcony off which are located the dining room, bar, and lounge—all with walls of glass. Both the interior and exterior are as fresh and attractive as can be, with pastel colors, appealing fabrics, and lovely traditional furnishings in light wood.
