Solar Monfalim Sketch

Karen's Review Of This Property:

Évora is a stunning town of great charm and rich historical heritage with its many churches, mansions, palaces, and an exquisite Roman temple. The Solar Monfalim, a 16th-century mansion, was once the private home of a nobleman, but in 1892 it began to take paying guests, thus making it the first hotel in Évora. This handsome building is true to the Alentejan style with white walls and bright-yellow trim. After entering through a dark-green door, you climb a broad stone staircase bordered with yellow and blue patterned tiles and accented by potted plants. The staircase sweeps up to a handsome gallery where you can eat breakfast and look out to the street through a cloister-like colonnade. Another door takes you into the reception area. The breakfast room is very attractive, with square tables topped with blue-and-white checked cloths. Guests also have the use of an old-world parlor and a cozy bar. Since this is an old mansion, the guestrooms vary in size and are located up and down a maze of hallways. We particularly liked room 104, a spacious room with tall windows opening to Largo da Misericondia, and 108, a large interior-facing twin. The staff is extremely friendly and always happy to recommend restaurants for dinner.
