Karen's Review Of This Property:
The spa town of Vidago was at its zenith when Portuguese royalty came to partake of the curative waters. The Vidago Palace hotel was built in 1910 and was reputedly the most luxurious hotel on the Iberian Peninsula. As befitting such a grand dame of a hotel it has recently received a total facelift, keeping the best of the old and adding the full range of amenities demanded by today’s savvy traveler. The Palace is scheduled to reopen in Spring 2009. Beyond the elegant façade lies an equally elegant interior. Of particular note is the beautiful horseshoe shaped staircase and the spectacular restaurant with its tall windows and lofty ceiling soaring to a second storey balcony. Our favorite bedrooms are those overlooking the park. You may be tempted to never leave the grounds: lunch poolside, tennis, golf, indulge yourself with treatments at the spa or simply stroll through the parklike grounds. The hotel is also popular as a conference center. Should you decide to venture further afield you will find that the Tras-os-Montes e Alto Douro region is one of the loveliest in Portugal, famous for its nature, mountains, valleys, rivers and natural parks.
