Karen's Review Of This Property:

The Pousada de Mesão Frio–Solar da Rede, located in the heart of Portugal’s finest wine region, has a superb setting in 27 hectares of terraced fields of grapes, offering a sweeping view out over the vineyards to the River Douro winding its way through the steep hills. As you drive up the tree-lined lane, your heart will be immediately captivated by the superb 18th-century mansion that magically appears behind a gated entrance, framed by two massive stone pillars. The two-story white manor has traditional stone trim and ornate wrought-iron balconies, and is fronted by a terrace. Below is another terrace, a real dazzler with neatly trimmed box hedges outlining beds of colorful flowers. To one side of the pousada is a swimming pool shaded by fragrant orange trees. Inside, the promise of grandeur is fulfilled. Leading from the spacious reception hall is a handsome stone staircase that divides on the landing and continues up to a series of antique-filled parlors, a billiard room, a charming dining room, and the guestrooms. The ambiance throughout is that of a sumptuous private home, which of course this was.

Directions: From Peso da Régua, take N108 west along the north bank of the Douro. Before you come to Mesão Frio, you pass through a tiny hamlet with a sign saying “Rede” and soon you come to the entrance of the pousada, which is marked on the right side of the road by a row of flags.
