Quinta da Timpeira is a beautifully decorated, immaculately kept, skillfully run, reasonably priced bed and breakfast in a region brimming with fascinating sights. Your charming hosts, Isabel and Francisco, totally restored Francisco’s mother’s country home, adding rooms for guests. Isabel is an engineer, and I’m sure it was her skilled eye that gave the renovation such imagination. In the curved, contemporary wing added to the front of the house you find a cozy sitting nook where guests can relax before an open fireplace and a dining area with a handsome table set in front of a wall of windows. (There is a second, larger dining room in a separate house that used to be the caretaker’s cottage.) Although prior reservations are needed, dinner is always available (and highly recommended). Handsome antique furniture, accented by pretty fabrics and bouquets of fresh flowers, soften and enhance all of the rooms. In addition to the main living room, there are several intimate parlors, a game room, and even a cute boutique selling handmade goods. In the garden are a swimming pool and tennis court. The price is excellent for the quality of accommodation and level of service—you will even enjoy evening turn down service.
