Hotel Métropole Sketch

Karen's Review Of This Property:

In terms of it’s ideal location, the Hotel Métropole, a charming hotel facing the Praça do Rossio, a beautiful square, can’t be bettered at any price. The exterior is very attractive—a handsome, turn-of-the-century, five-story building with symmetrical windows on each floor opening to balconies accented with wrought-iron railings. You enter into a tiny foyer with solemn gray floors and walls, then a small elevator takes you up one floor to the reception area and the spacious lounge, which has a bar at one end and a row of windows opening onto the square. Also on this same floor is the breakfast room. Throughout the hotel everything is very smart, with a color scheme set by the attractive carpets, which are a deep rose with a subtle creamy-yellow pattern. The guestrooms have the same carpet and the same color scheme, which is repeated in the striped draperies. All the rooms have cream-colored walls and appealing, traditional-style headboards with matching dressing tables and bedside tables. Be sure to request a room at the front of the hotel and ask for one with a balcony—the view from these rooms is magical at night when the fountains dance under spotlights and the castle on the hill is illuminated.

The Metropole was a terrific value (we paid E120/night) and its location is fantastic. Rooms are very clean and nicely furnished (only problem is if you are tall, all of the beds are full-size and have foot boards which presented some issues for me). Very centrally located; short walking distance to the Barrio Alto, 3 short blocks to the Metro station where there are two Metro lines that lead to many other neighborhoods and the Baixa where it is located is also a very nice area.
