Karen's Review Of This Property:
The Pousada de Queluz–Dona Maria I is a real stunner. As you leave the highway at Queluz, you pass modern housing developments dotting the hills, a reminder that Queluz is a suburb of Lisbon. But you won’t be disappointed when you reach the pousada, which faces the imposing 18th-century Queluz National Palace. The pousada is instantly appealing—a charming pink building with white trim and a red-tiled roof accented by a whimsical white bell tower. It is surprising that the building has such architectural splendor, for it was used to house the staff who tended to the royal entourage spending their summers at the palace. The interior of the pousada is tasteful in every respect. The attractive guestrooms are almost identical in style, with traditional furnishings, handsome rose-colored spreads and drapes, and every modern convenience including TVs, direct-dial telephones, mini-bars, and beautiful marble bathrooms. Breakfast is served at the pousada, but in the evening guests dine across the street at the palace in the gorgeous Cozinha Velha, a real knockout of a restaurant. Originally the kitchen for the royal palace, it still incorporates in the center of the room the gigantic open fireplace where meats were roasted and an enormous table where food was prepared.
