Karen's Review Of This Property:

The Casa da Pérgola offers an incredible value and a superb location in the heart of colorful Cascais with an easy commute to Lisbon by train. The house next door is almost a twin to the Casa da Pérgola—hostess Patricia Corrêa Gonçalves’s great-grandfather gave both of his daughters a matching house, side by side, though only the Casa da Pérgola has remained in the family. The front garden is enticing, with neatly clipped hedges outlining colorful flower beds and a pretty little fountain. The house has a wonderful whimsical look—it is a sparkling-white three-story home with a red-tile mansard roof, blue-and-gold azulejos framing the windows, and accents of bright geranium red. You enter into a small foyer with a handsome floor of black-and-white marble. To the left is the intimate breakfast room. Straight ahead, a marble staircase with a wrought-iron-and-brass banister leads upstairs to the bedrooms and to the living room, which oozes old-fashioned elegance—Oriental carpets, a huge chandelier, ornate wood-paneled ceiling, a wine-red velvet sofa, walls tiled halfway up with beautiful blue-and-white tiles, and many oil paintings. All of the guestrooms are nicely decorated, mostly with family heirlooms. The choice bedroom is 14, “Cinzento.” This was Patricia’s grandparents’ room and has beautiful antique twin beds and a large balcony overlooking the garden.
