Quinta da Alcaidaria–Mór Sketch

Karen's Review Of This Property:

The Quinta da Alcaidaria-Mór offers genuine warmth of welcome and a quinta brimming with charm and history. Amazingly, the home has been in the same family for over 300 years. The original owner was the king’s personal physician and, as thanks for his years of loyal service, the king gave him the property and also a noble title. Your gracious hostess, Sra. Vasconcelos, raised seven children and—as might be expected with her experience—is an expert in managing a household with gentle efficiency. She is ably assisted by her daughter, Rosário, and her son, Nuno, and together they make a great team, welcoming guests as visiting friends. There are six guestrooms, one garden suite and three cottages, all prettily decorated in a fresh, uncluttered style, with beautiful antique beds and a few fine pieces of furniture. My favorite bedrooms are upstairs, just off the guest sitting room, which have an appealing English-country look with shuttered windows accented by sheer white curtains, and pretty blue-patterned fabric repeated on the bedspreads, drapes, and upholstered chairs. There is also a lovely pool in the garden.

Directions: From the A1, follow signs to Ourém. Go through town and continue for about 2.5 km to where the road splits (the left branch is marked to Seiça and the right to Tomar). Almost in the middle of the intersection, on the left side of the road, there is an entrance (sign: Turismo de Habitaçao) that leads through a row of trees to the house.
