Karen's Review Of This Property:

Unlike most hotels in the Algarve which were built relatively recently, the Monte do Casal country house is a wonderful exception. Dating back to the 18th century, it reflects the style of the region with sand colored walls, brown shutters and a heavy tiled roof. Eight acres with almond, olive, and fruit trees and well maintained gardens, large lakes, ponds and a lovely swimming pool surround the small hotel which is covered with climbing bougainvillea. Guestrooms are found in the main building and an adjacent villa. All of the rooms have terraces where your breakfast is served, each with a view out over the countryside to the sea. Relax at the lakeside spa which, besides treatment and massage rooms, also includes a sauna, Turkish bath, outdoor swimming pool and sundeck. Bill Hawkins, who hails from England, is your gracious host. It is no coincidence that he runs the hotel so professionally since he trained in both the Savoy and Claridges in London and worked at hotels in Switzerland and Bermuda. Mr Hawkins is also a trained chef and his meals (served outside on the terrace in summer and in the old coach house when days are a little nippy) are outstanding. However, the greatest attribute of this delightful hotel is Bill Hawkins himself—he has natural warmth and takes great care of his guests.
