The Villas at Estrella del Mar fills a much-needed niche in Mazatlán—a city best known for its huge high-rise hotels and vast number of time-share complexes. We were thrilled to discover an outstanding small beachfront hotel—a perfect choice for those who crave the tranquility of pristine beaches, blissful seclusion, and top notch accommodations. The hotel is part of an exceptionally well-planned, 816–acre, gated community called Estrella del Mar, located south of Mazatlán that features private homes, townhouses, condominiums and a Robert Trent Jones Jr. 18-hole championship golf course. When the developers bought the land, it included a small hotel that was originally the private home of Art Linkletter, the charming host of two of America’s longest-running TV shows. The hotel sits right on the beach. And, what a beach it is! A wide expanse of creamy beige sand that stretches for over three miles—it seems you can walk forever in both directions. The origional hotel had 21 rooms and more rooms, a restaurant, and a top notch spa are being added. The old and new sections of the hotel are seamlessly blended together, maintaining the original hotel’s quiet charm with Mexican-style furnishings and quality throughout. As an extra bonus, all are welcome to use Estrella del Mar’s golf course, call for tee times. A shuttle service is available to Mazatlán.
