Newly opened in 2002, The Tides brings new heights of luxurious, understated elegance to the Riviera Maya. There is nothing ostentatious about this gorgeous small property: in fact, there is very little about the hotel that hints of any commercialism. No signs boldly point the way; only a privileged few who have secured a reservation in advance will ever find their way to this intimate hotel secreted down a gravel lane in a lush wooded park that stretches to the beach. Once you arrive you are greeted personally by either the exceptionally gracious manager, Nicolás Dominguez, or one of his able assistants. Paths meander through the property to the guestrooms, each an individual villa tucked into the rich foliage with a small private pool in front and beautiful private terrace, your own romantic hideaway. The décor of the bedrooms reflects the kind of quiet simplicity that exudes top quality and refinement. Nothing is cluttered or busy. You have just a king-sized bed with sumptuous linens, a soaring thatched ceiling, beautiful hardwood floors, a cabinet hiding television, stereo, and VCR, and a top-of-the-line bathroom with a second shower in the garden. Paths wind down to a splendid stretch of white-sand beach where a beautiful pool and restaurant with gourmet dining complete the scene of perfection. If that is not enough, there is also a spectacular spa.
