Hotel Colonial Sketch

Karen's Review Of This Property:

The Hotel Colonial, with a prime location one block from Puebla’s main square, dates back to 1668 when it was built as a Jesuit monastery. Not only is the mustard-yellow building with white trim and wrought-iron balconies attractive; but it also has another great bonus: it faces onto a pretty cobblestone, pedestrian-only street adorned by a fountain and shade trees. The hotel is not deluxe or sumptuous, but it exudes a quiet air of quality. Officially designated as a three-star hotel, in our estimation the Hotel Colonial soars far above this rating. You enter into a spacious reception foyer whose vaulted ceilings, arched doorways, thick walls, and handsome stone floors attest to the building’s origins. The hotel is built around a central courtyard where meals are served at tables with handsome wood and leather chairs. A lovely antique stone fountain accents one of the walls and the room is gently illuminated by an exceptionally pretty domed skylight, which has colorful Talavera tiles dividing the sections of glass. Talavera tile is also used on the staircase that leads up to the guestrooms, which are surprisingly spacious and pleasantly decorated in a simple way. Best of all, most of the guestrooms have a small wrought-iron balcony where you can step out and enjoy the view. If you are looking for quality and location at a reason price, you can do no better than the Hotel Colonial.
