Spread throughout 27 verdant acres, 19 buildings, and 3 levels overlooking Tangolunda Bay, the traditional white-stucco Camino Real Zaashila is an excellent choice for a family getaway to Mexico’s Pacific Riviera. The property boasts a quarter-mile of exclusive, wide golden beach and what must be the largest (450 feet) and loveliest sculpted pool in Huatulco’s nine-bay area (request poolside accommodation if you want to minimize stairs). Fully a third of the rooms feature a 196-square-foot private pool, and every room has a small, furnished balcony with a view of the bay and the blue expanse of the Pacific beyond. The rustic, off-white stucco bedrooms have green-painted ceilings and Italian-marble floors, and are large enough to accommodate a reading chair and small writing/eating table. Verdigris wrought-iron and Mexican-style pale-mahogany and rattan furniture are tastefully combined to create a light and airy ambiance. The bathrooms and closets are surprisingly spacious—a blessing at a beach resort where an extended stay is likely. Once you’ve undergone the bustle of check-in at the bottom of the hill, and oriented yourself to your room amidst the gardens and walkways, you’ll be able to relax utterly and savor totally the natural beauty of the landscape, a myriad of water sports, tennis, nearby golf, and all the benefits of a full-service resort hotel.
