For those looking for a natural paradise, this unusual hotel, elegant in its simplicity lures guests back year after year for utter relaxation and pampering by the gentle, caring staff. Hotelito Desconocido is an environmentally friendly hotel—it has no phones or electricity and uses biodegradable products. This unique hotel is the dream of Marcello Murzillo, a well-known Italian fashion designer, who fell in love with this remote bit of coast and bought 100 acres bordering a nature preserve with miles of remote beach. The complex mimics a simple fishing village of rustic thatched cottages. Delicious meals are served in a thatched, Tahitian-looking, open-air restaurant perched over the water. At night, when the restaurant is illuminated by candlelight, the ambiance is sheer magic. The nicely decorated guestrooms tucked around the property have colorful furnishings and fine linens. Boats are available for guests who want to row across the small estuary to the beach, which is great for walking, turtle viewing, and bird watching, but not recommended for swimming. The hotel is open all year, but our choice would be to avoid the hot, rainy summer season.
