Karen's Review Of This Property:
For those who relish discovering super-deluxe hideaways far off the beaten path, the Hacienda de San Antonio is the perfect choice. This splendid property, originally a tobacco plantation, is really isolated, nestled beneath the shadow of a majestic volcano about a 20-minute drive into the hills from Colima. Guestrooms open off a garden courtyard, the first floor being surrounded by a colonnaded walkway and an upper gallery repeating the arched colonnades. You really don’t need to choose a suite to achieve luxury, since all the antique-filled rooms are spacious and decorated with great taste. The decor has a richly masculine feel, with strong colors, tapestries, hand-woven carpets, and hand-loomed draperies. All the suites have fireplaces, terraces or patios, and beautiful bathrooms. The public rooms are vast and as you pass from room to room it seems as though you are stepping back in time and are a guest in a private home. You walk through a terraced, formal garden with reflecting pools and fountains to a gorgeous, incredibly large swimming pool. The Hacienda makes a wonderful retreat if you want to be alone and away from the world for a while but if you want activity, horseback riding, bird watching, nature walks, and bicycling on the 4,000-hectare property are all options.
