Karen's Review Of This Property:

Hotel Misión adds a new dimension to your Copper Canyon adventure. You leave the train at Bahuichivo (about four hours west of El Fuerte) and take a bumpy 14-kilometer ride down into the canyon to the tiny village of Cerocahui, nestled in a beautiful fertile valley. Here you find the Hotel Misión, surrounded by apple orchards and a vineyard that produces table wines for the restaurant. The Balderrama family, who originated Copper Canyon tourism, owns the property and when you book your room, they can also arrange for train tickets, transfers, and sightseeing tours—making everything very easy. Across the street from the hotel is a beautiful Jesuit mission founded in 1694 by Salvatierra (the first white man to reach the bottom). This is not a luxurious hotel, nor was it ever meant to be; however, it exudes a cozy, rustic, inviting, lodge-like ambiance, appropriate for its setting, and the food is amazingly good for such a remote hotel. The guestrooms are cozy with beam ceilings, carved wood furniture, terracotta floors, large chandeliers, and brightly colored hand-woven fabrics. My favorite guestrooms are those that face onto the vineyard. While you stay here you can take guided horseback rides, trek to the lovely Huicochi waterfall, explore the many nearby trails, or take a tour to the old mining town of Urique where there is a lookout with sweeping canyon views.
