Karen's Review Of This Property:
The Casa Vieja is a well managed, very friendly, moderately sized hotel with an excellent location in the historic section of town, just a short walk to the central plaza. The exterior exudes a rustic charm with its creamy white façade, enhanced by blue trim and accented by a red-tiled gable roof. You enter into a reception area with a small lounge to the right where comfortable chairs are clustered beneath an antique wall clock. Although the original adobe brick home dates back to 1740, its layout is contemporary with exterior wooden staircases and guestrooms opening onto walkways that wrap around three garden courtyards with pastel peach-colored stucco walls laced by ivy. The restaurant, which serves very good meals, faces onto one of the prettiest of these courtyards that is highlighted by a Talavera tile fountain. A glass roof covering the courtyard allows meals to be served in the garden even on chilly days. The standard guestrooms are modestly decorated with traditional Mexican-style dark wood furniture and colorful fabrics. All of the guestrooms are reasonably priced, but without a doubt, the two suites (48 and 49) offer one of the best values in San Cristóbal. Be sure to request one of these spacious rooms—each has a king-sized bed, comfortable sitting area, Jacuzzi tub, and pretty view. The small difference in price is well worth the splurge.
