Karen's Review Of This Property:
With just eleven rooms, including three junior suites, paired up throughout the six-floor building (luckily with an elevator), the intimate Santo Stefano was actually the watchtower to an ancient convent. The compact hotel, most recently a private home, is right in the middle of one of Venice’s largest squares, leading to St. Mark’s on one side and to the bridge for the Accademia on the other. Being close to the busy center, you can observe the Venetians going about their daily business. The hotel is owned by brothers Roberto and Marcello of the Hotel Celio in Rome, who have added fresh decorating touches to bedrooms and reception area. Just beyond is a miniature breakfast room, looking out to an ancient well, for days when the weather does not permit eating out in the front piazza. Touches of elegance in Venetian style follow through in rooms appointed with Barovier and Toso chandeliers, coordinated draperies and bedspreads, and painted antiques with a floral motif. Many amenities are offered including air conditioning. Renovation of all bathrooms included the installation of Jacuzzi and steam baths. Roberto is an experienced and amiable host with a definite aim to please guests.
