Karen's Review Of This Property:
The owner of one of the finest small hotels in France recommended the Hotel Metropole as his favorite place to stay in Venice. After being a guest, I can understand his choice—the Metropole has great heart. On entering, I was immediately aware of an aura of hospitality that is usually encountered only in intimate, very small hotels—everyone seems to take personal responsibility that your stay will be a pleasant one. It appears that the owners, the Beggiato family, who personally manage the hotel, have imbued the staff with their own warmth of welcome. Many employees have been with them since the hotel first opened in 1971 and seem to care about the hotel as if it were their own. The Beggiatos are passionate about antiques and have over 2,000 pieces displayed in the hotel, including a fascinating collection of old corkscrews, fans, stunning bags, and crucifixes. The reception hall has an Oriental flare, reminiscent of Venice’s rich past as a center of commerce with distant countries. All of the spacious bedrooms are individually decorated as in a private home and have fine antique furniture. An elegant tearoom serves fresh cakes and teas in precious porcelain. Another great bonus is the romantic garden restaurant, The Met, where Michelin star chef Corrado performs daily. Some of the bedrooms overlook this garden while others have a beautiful view of the lagoon, as the hotel enjoys a marvelous waterfront setting.
