L’Orto degli Angeli is a rare jewel. Located in the historic center of Bevagna (a small, picture-perfect walled village of Roman origin), this intimate inn exudes the genuine warmth of a private home, yet offers the comfort and sophistication of a fine hotel. The handsome stone house has been in the family of your gracious host, Francesco Antonini, since 1788. He and his sweet wife, Tiziana, welcome guests with such a gentle kindness that you will be immediately captivated by their charm. An impressive staircase leads up to the guest lounge, which has a stunning frescoed ceiling and comfortable sofa and chairs grouped around an immense stone fireplace. Main meals are served in the Redibis restaurant set in a well-preserved part of the ambulatory of the ancient Roman theater built in the 1st century A.D. All of the individually decorated guestrooms have pretty, tiled bathrooms, some antique furnishings, fireplaces, and color-coordinating fabrics on the bedspreads and curtains. Many of the rooms overlook a central garden, built upon the old Roman theatre. Bevagna is rich in historical importance—don’t miss the stunning little 19th-century opera house, the well-preserved mosaics in the Roman baths, and the picturesque churches.
