The Grand Hotel Continental Siena, an elegant small hotel that opened in early 2002, is one of the most exciting properties to come on the scene in Siena in many years. Although there are lovely places to stay on the periphery, there has never been an outstanding hotel in the heart of Siena, within steps of all of its fabulous sights. To say that this need for an exceptional property has now been fulfilled is an understatement: the Grand Hotel Continental Siena is an absolute dream and would be a sensation anywhere in the world. Located just off the Piazza del Campo, the building dates back to 1600 when it was designed as a magnificent palace for the noble Chigi family. After years of labor by countless artisans, the palace has been returned to its original splendor. The grandeur and opulence of the rooms are breathtaking. Fine fabrics, exquisite furnishings, and priceless antiques create a setting of unsurpassed grandeur. At the heart of the palace a central courtyard, protected by a glass roof, allows the sunlight to fill the hotel with sunshine. Off the courtyard the various parlors and ballrooms are gorgeous. A sweeping, wide staircase leads upstairs to the sumptuous bedrooms and suites, some of which feature magnificent, museum-quality, frescoed ceilings.
