Karen's Review Of This Property:

In the new category of accommodation in historic residences, the Antica Torre is at the top of the list. The top floors of this ancient fortified palazzo, in the very center of Florence, has been converted into a luxurious and stunning hotel. An elevator takes guests up to the top-floor sitting/bar area and breakfast room where large windows allow heart-stopping full 360-degree views over Florence’s terracotta tiled roofs, major monuments, Arno river, and distant hillside backdrop. Take a closer look by stepping out on the large rooftop terrace complete with turrets to have an eye-level peek at Brunelleschi’s grand cupola. On the two floors below you find 12 upscale and extra-spacious bedrooms with many amenities, each featuring more unique views or private terraces. The classically styled rooms have been well appointed in soft hues of gold or celestial blue, many with large open windows, perfect for drinking in the marvelous cityscape, virtually identical to that of the Renaissance period. Attentive and energetic young staff definitely keep guests’ every comfort in mind, and can arrange anything from special events on the terrace, to taking over the whole accommodation for family reunions or other gatherings. Magical does not even come close to describing the sensation at sunset from this special perch.

Dear Friends at Karen Brown, Months ago we booked an apartment on the river in Firenze to take our family for Thanksgiving for five days. Ten days before we left, I received a frantic message from the leasing agent saying that the building owner had, unannounced, commenced exterior restoration and the building was wrapped in plastic, all the windows were sealed, scaffolding had been erected, and our beautiful, luxurious, 4-bedroom, 4-bath apartment was basically out of commission. The first thing I did was go to your website and start researching hotels in Firenze and found Antica Torre di Tornabuoni which had a Deluxe room for my husband and me and an apartment for our son and his family. Plus, they had discounted the entire hotel for Thanksgiving week so the cost was only about E500 more than the apartment would have been. Here’s the take on the hotel -- the location is superior, could not possibly be better. With a couple of exceptions, the reception staff is very sharp, especially Ilaria and Cristina. They need to inform guests that there is no housekeeping service after 2:00PM -- not a problem if you know the rules so you don’t get snapped at by the (unnamed)receptionist! Our son is with NATO in Naples so they drove up and the hotel has a very easy accommodation for cars -- they picked his car up when we arrived and returned it when we left for E25/night. The breakfast in the rooftop salon was delicious, and the honor bar the rest of the day and into the evening was always neat and well-stocked. This is not a five-star hotel, but it is a first-rate one -- clean, comfortable, superbly located and we would absolutely stay there again. Thank you for providing the background and research to rescue our vacation -- in our experience, Karen Brown’s Guides have always stood for quality and dependability.
