Karen's Review Of This Property:
It would be difficult to find another hotel with as many attributes as the Villa San Michele—in fact, almost impossible. How could you surpass a wooded hillside setting overlooking Florence, a stunning view, gorgeous antiques, impeccable management, gourmet dining, and, as if this were not enough, a building designed by Michelangelo. The Villa San Michele was originally a monastery dating back to the 15th century and occupied by Franciscan friars until Napoleon turned it into his headquarters. The adaptation of its rooms and public areas to today’s standards has been made without affecting the ambiance of serenity and history. Most of the rooms are in the historical building and have been recently renovated and redecorated with taste and somber elegance. Eighteen junior suites are located in the Italian garden and three suites in the Limonaia, once the greenhouse for storing lemon plants during the winter. All have sweeping views of Florence and the Arno Valley. The lounges, dining rooms, terraces, and gardens are also exquisite. Meals can be enjoyed either in the elegant dining room or on a lovely veranda that stretches along the entire length of the building. A panoramic swimming pool has been built on a secluded terrace above the hotel. Now a permanent cooking school, the Villa San Michele School of Cookery offers a wide range of gastronomic courses.
