Karen's Review Of This Property:

If you want to find the perfect little hotel to use as a base to explore the wonders of Tuscany and Umbria, look no farther than Il Falconiere—a jewel snuggled in the countryside just a few kilometers outside Cortona. From this convenient location you can venture out each day to such beauties as Siena, Florence, Assisi, San Gimignano, Orvieto, and Pienza, all easily accessible by car. The joy is that you can return each evening to relax by the gorgeous swimming pool, enjoy some of the best food in Italy, then sleep peacefully in the hushed tranquility of the countryside. And what a value! You can stay here for much less than you would pay for a deluxe room in Florence or Rome. Il Falconiere is owned by Silvia and Riccardo Baracchi, a charming, talented young couple who have achieved amazing results from their labor of love and long years of hard work. Riccardo inherited the property from his grandmother. His wife, Silvia, is the incredibly talented chef whose superb meals have earned their restaurant a Michelin star. The guestrooms are individually decorated with great flair. Many antiques are used throughout, creating a comfortable, quietly sophisticated elegance. Il Falconiere is truly a very special place offering superb quality, charm, and genuine hospitality. Another bonus: the hotel has a wonderful wellness center and has recently restored the beautiful Baracchi estate winery just east of Cortona.

We have been great fans of Il Falconiere since we first discovered it some 12 years ago. It was,and still is, a beautiful property but this time I am afraid to say that not only were there building works going on next door to our Junior Suite but the room we asked to be moved to,number 10 a deluxe, had not had anything done to it since we last stayed in it some 9 years previously. Consequently the bathroom was in need of urgent renovation and looked ’scruffy’ with the bath panel coming away from the side of the bath for example and it felt very old fashioned. Our bedroom was looking tired and worn and was I am afraid to say very poor value for money for the condition we found it in. Newer rooms in the podere are now much more attractive but we did not wish to stay away from the beautiful old villa and original site of Il Falconiere. It’s so sad some it’s bewitching charm has been lost so it can offer spa facilities and more rooms...!

PROPERTY RESPONSE:
We always make our best to welcome our guests. At the moment we are building a Spa so we are perfectly aware about discomfort that this may cause. So next year we will have the possibility to offer a fantastic and relaxing experience with treatments based on wine and olive oil. Moreover, we have chosen not to renovate completely our rooms to keep alive the old Tuscan style. However we wait for the return of Mrs. Ashworth to welcome back as our affectionate guest.
