Karen's Review Of This Property:
For exploring the southeastern region of Sicily, indulging in Sicilian Baroque architecture and delectable local cuisine, Modica, the city of 100 churches, is definitely a highlight. This fascinating area is getting well-deserved attention also because the past five years have brought about a wave of updated accommodations. Your top choice in Modica is undoubtedly the Palazzo Failla, the historic 18th-century home of the gracious Failla family who recently had the entire building restored, preserving hand-made painted ceramic tile floors, black volcanic stone floors, wrought iron pieces, decorative vaulted frescoes, and heirloom antique furniture. Ten period bedrooms with high ceilings are found on the upper floor reached by elevator or the main staircase from reception, each individually appointed as in a private home. Off to the right of the main hall is the highly rated La Gazza Ladra restaurant, with experienced chef Accursio Craparo in command. Artistically presented dishes are based on traditional Sicilian recipes. The stylish ambiance of the immaculate white dining room has black and white checked floors, crisp white table linens, antique credenzas, and a wine list of 400 labels. To the left of the main reception hall is the Blandini bar where a cappuccino is served in the morning, tea in the afternoon or an aperitif with the locals at twilight.
