Karen's Review Of This Property:
The more adventurous traveler will be greatly rewarded with a stay at the Eremo, a 15th-century convent-turned-inn near the sea, conveniently located for exploring the baroque cities of Ragusa, Noto, and Modica. The noble Nifosi family restored the historic building with the desire of offering unique accommodation to travelers. The combination of professions in the family (antique collector, architect, and chef) made the project a natural. The typical baglio fortress with white-stone courtyard dominates the flat plain. An arched reception area was once part of the church and is striking with its contrast of white stone walls and black tiled floors, guarded by a knight in armor. The refined decor throughout is soothingly simple, in keeping with the building’s medieval origins, and bedrooms, fashioned from friars’ cells, are appointed with wrought-iron beds, white bedspreads, and antique armoires. Particular attention has been given to the traditional Sicilian cuisine, accompanied by a long list of Sicilian wines and served in either what was once the vaulted refectory or the crypts below. Fascinating itineraries are organized by boat, bike, jeep, or even by the owner’s private plane, including overnight trips to the islands or Tunisia. Shuttle service is available from cities or airports.
