Karen's Review Of This Property:

I am such a romantic that, as the boat chugged across Lake Maggiore from Stresa to the medieval fishing village of Isola dei Pescatori (Fisherman’s Island) and I saw the Hotel Verbano with its reddish-brown walls, dark-green shutters, and tables set on the terrace overlooking the lake, my heart was won—completely. To accommodate the many people who clamber off the excursion boats each day to visit this picturesque island, the hotel has a large dining room with arched windows overlooking the lake. However, when the weather is warm, the favorite place to dine is outside on the idyllic terrace overlooking nearby Isola Bella (Beautiful Island). In the evening, when most of the tourists have departed, the terrace becomes even more romantic—particularly with a full moon reflecting on the rippling water. The food is excellent, featuring fish fresh from the lake. The 12 bedrooms, all with a lake view, are delightful, with high ceilings, wooden floors, and modern bathrooms. Several have balconies and three share a large terrace.

Directions: Exit the A26 at Stresa and follow signposts for the waterfront where you take the public ferry to Isola dei Pescatori (the ferry is much cheaper than the private water taxis).
