Hotel du Lac, an intimate, family-managed hotel in the colorful, tiny village of Villa di Gargnano, is very special. If you want an elegant hotel decorated with opulent fabrics and ornate furnishings, this would not be your cup of tea. But for genuine hospitality, superb lakefront setting, and spotlessly clean, attractive rooms at very reasonable prices, the Hotel du Lac is a real winner. From the moment we walked in and met the charming young owner, Valerio Arosio, I knew this would be a special hotel. The reception and sitting areas as you enter are simply decorated with modern, nondescript furnishings. In contrast, the bedrooms are unexpectedly attractive for such moderately priced accommodations. Each has a lovely antique headboard and a sweet, simple charm. There is satellite TV and free Internet connections in all the rooms and the bathrooms are modern and even have hairdryers. Splurge and ask for one of the bedrooms with a terrace and view of the lake. When the weather is warm, most meals are served outside. However, there is an attractive dining room with windows on three sides capturing views of the lake. Unfortunately, the hotel does not have private parking, however they can suggest public parking lots in the area.
