Hotel Florence
A Karen Brown Recommended Hotel / Inn

Karen's Review Of This Property:
The Hotel Florence offers moderately priced accommodations in the charming ancient port of Bellagio. The location is prime—facing the lake in the heart of the old part of town. Across the road from the hotel, next to the lake, is a romantic, wisteria-covered terrace where meals are served when the weather is balmy. If you are lucky enough to snare a front room with a balcony, you can step out through your French doors and be treated to a splendid view of Lake Como. The lounge, which is just off the reception area, is the oldest part of the building, dating back to the 18th century. Here you find a beamed ceiling and a large fireplace. A staircase leads to the upper floor where the guest dining room is located—it has no view of the lake, but does have a fireplace to warm the room on chilly days. There is also a gourmet restaurant open to the public and a spa with massage services. All of the individually decorated guestrooms have antique furnishings, satellite TVs, safety boxes, and hairdryers. Splurge and ask for the corner room with French doors opening onto a large terrace with lounge chairs invitingly set for viewing the lake. The hotel is owned by the Ketzlar family, who are real pros—the inn has been in their family for over 150 years. It is now managed by Freidl Ketzlar, her daughter Roberta, and her nephews Christian, Timothy and Aaron. The family tradition lives on.
