Karen's Review Of This Property:
Although surrounded by a sprawling, uninteresting concrete metropolis, the center of Bologna shelters a fascinating maze of ancient twisting streets, arcaded passageways, a vast selection of cultural activities, marvelous shopping under porticoed walkways, and some of the best food in all of Italy. The revamped Corona d’Oro, the best in town in the heart of the medieval quarter, is a small, well-managed hotel whose elegantly designed construction conserves architectural elements of various periods, predominately the art nouveau. In the atrium courtyard entrance with original marble floors and fresh white sofas, you can admire a portico that dates back to the 14th century. The main hall and stairwell, exquisitely done in the Liberty style of the early 1900s, lead up to the bedrooms, which are individually decorated, mostly with modern furnishings, but with a touch of the traditional in the sedate color schemes and prints nicely displayed on the walls. Some of the rooms have recessed block-panel ceilings with paintings of coats of arms and landscapes dating back to the 15th and 16th centuries. A few rooms also have small balconies or terraces. Service and tourist assistance outstanding. For a more zen-like experience there is also the owner’s Novecento Hotel nearby.
